TMJ D and Tongue Posture

TMJ Pain

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJD) is a common condition that causes pain and dysfunction in the jaw joint and surrounding muscles. One often overlooked factor contributing to TMJD is improper tongue posture. When the tongue rests in an incorrect position, it can create imbalances and tension in the jaw muscles, exacerbating TMJD symptoms.

At our clinic, we specialize in myofunctional therapy and breathing re-education to address these underlying issues. Myofunctional therapy focuses on correcting tongue posture, strengthening oral muscles, and establishing proper swallowing patterns. By retraining the tongue to rest against the roof of the mouth, we can help alleviate the muscle tension that contributes to TMJD.

Breathing re-education complements myofunctional therapy by promoting nasal breathing, which reduces strain on the jaw muscles and improves overall oral function. Together, these therapies can significantly reduce TMJD symptoms, providing long-lasting relief and improving quality of life.

Discover how our holistic approach can help you find relief from TMJD. Contact us today to schedule a consultation.
